I am Subhas Chopra. I have stayed in Germany for the last 45 years, and at the age of 70, I decided that I have to go to India to see Durga Puja, which has been in my mind for the last 20 years. When I met a Bengali gentleman who told me all about Durga Puja and how big it is, I was wonderstruck. When GSOE took me to Kolkata to see Durga Puja, the best part was that at this age, I had a little bit of a health issue, but the organizers of GSOE took special care of me to ensure that even after the tour ended, I could stay a couple of more days in the hotel to recover well and then safely go back home. Regarding Durga Puja, I simply enjoyed the spiritual aspect that Maa Durga gave me at this age.

I am David Bassetti. I have been an entrepreneur in the south of France, Grenoble, for the last 30 years, and in my company, I had a person called Grégoire who had been to Kolkata, a place called Kumartuli, where they make the idols for Durga Puja. I had heard from him many amazing stories of Kolkata, and I always wanted to go there. Last year, when GSOE approached me, I immediately bought a ticket to Kolkata to see how Durga Puja was. It was a sensory overload for the 3-4 days I was there in Kolkata, just soaking up everything from the spiritual aspect, cultural aspect, the food aspect, the smell, the drum sound. I can’t imagine that something as great as this can happen in this town of Kolkata, which is one of the finest vintage cities in the world. I will come back here and send my son, who is an art lover, next year to see in what level art can reach in India during Durga Puja.
